New Things We’ve Seen In Solidworks 2024

Here at Perception Engineering, we have been utilizing the newer features of Solidworks 2024 for several months now. We have been exploring its latest tools and we are excited to share our findings with you.

Importing Step Files

Importing a lot of STEP File Assemblies? Lucky for you Solidworks 2024 updated importing STEP file Assemblies to have “Enable Filter”. Before importing all STEP geometry, this option allows the user to view the entire assembly component tree. Users can then choose the desired components from the list. Want to import only one part? You can individually select a single file.

You Can Now Pack And Go To Another Version Of Solidworks

One of the most exciting new things we’ve noticed is now you can save your files to an older version of Solidworks! You can save them off or pack-and-go them for backward compatibility with Solidworks 2022 and 2023. If you are using Solidworks 2024 in 3DExperience and collaborating with someone who hasn't upgraded to the latest version of Solidworks yet, this is an excellent solution for seamless collaboration. It's important to note that certain new features in Solidworks may not be compatible with older versions of the software. This means that there could be some limitations around using these features if you're working with an older version of Solidworks.

Opening A Part Drawing In A TOP-LEVEL Assembly Drawing

Here's a helpful tip that we came across - did you know that you can save some time by opening a part drawing directly from the BOM table? It's a neat trick that can come in handy when working with complex assemblies. This is really convenient because now you do not have to open the part to open the drawing or locate the drawing in a folder. With this new feature, you can now effortlessly access the drawing by just right-clicking on the part you would like to open the drawing in the BOM table and select “Open Drawing”.
